LATEST NEWS (12/15/2014)

Seventeen of our Corning PAL wrestlers invaded Foothill High School in Sacramento on December 13th for the Nor Cal PAL Winter Classic. From the first whistles this morning it was clear that Corning PAL showed up ready to battle.

In the morning session, six of our wrestlers competed in the Varsity division. Kody Kendrick and Brody Flournoy scored 1st place finishes in their respective weight classes, while Anthony Coats and Devin Williams brought home 2nd place medals. Talan Lomeli and Conner Hernandez brought home bronze medals, while Ryan Felciano took 4th. Even 2nd grader Logan Meredith got in on the fun in the morning, scoring an ‘exhibition match’ victory over a 7th grade 70 pounder that had the crowd in disbelief. All in all, our Varsity boys looked REALLY impressive.

In the second session, our JV wrestlers were just too much for most of the other clubs. Devin and Talan dominated their extremely challenging bracket, with Devin finishing 1st and Talan grabbing 2nd. Logan was completely dominant in his first weight class, securing 1st place. In the next weight class up, Logan was joined by four teammates: Jayden Oakes, Kannon Gregorio, Javier Castillo and Jacob Brooke. In that bracket, Jacob took 5th, Jayden 4th, Kannon 3rd, Javier 2nd and Logan 1st. Brody grabbed a 1st place finish in his JV bracket to match the one he got in Varsity, and Ian Brown and Diego Rico snagged gold medals as well, continuing their momentum from last year. Not to be outdone by his little cousin Diego, Ethan Rico also brought home a 1st place finish. To round out our placers, Ty Henderson grabbed a hard fought silver medal, while Carson Felciano took 4th.

If you lost count, here’s a list of our medalists:

All told, Corning PAL brought home 9 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals for a grand total of 18 medals! Those that didn’t medal were still all top five finishers, just off the podium.

While most of our wrestlers were down in Sacramento on Saturday, six our our PAL wrestlers stayed in Corning for the annual Sharks Takedown Tournament.  Jeremy Robbins, Cash Aulabaugh, Sammy Shults, Danica Ramey, Darren Ramey, and Bree Battiato all participated in Corning to help support the other local club.

Here are the results:

Darren Ramey, 1st Place; Bree Battiato, 2nd Place; Cash Aulabaugh, 2nd Place; Sammy Shults, 3rd Place

In addition, Jeremy and Danica represented PAL well by battling hard in their brackets; Danica even got a takedown at her very first tournament. To all those that participated: way to go out there and showcase our program.
